"Jash


This is the smoke test for the distributed LinearSolve.jl benchmark harness. It is deliberately tiny: its only job is to prove that the full toolchain — Weave → mpiexec → MPI.jl → PETSc → PETScAlgorithm on a replicated SparseMatrixCSC — runs end-to-end and returns a correct solution across multiple ranks. Once this is green, the real scaling benchmarks build on exactly this plumbing.

The heavy lifting lives in run_solve.jl, which each MPI worker executes; this document only orchestrates the runs and tabulates what the workers print. That split mirrors how the LinearSolve.jl test suite drives its MPI tests.

Single vs. two ranks

We solve the same 2-D Laplacian on 1 and 2 ranks. The correctness gate (residual < 1e-6) is asserted insiderun_solve.jl, so if either run returns at all, it already passed — a nonzero exit would have thrown here.

If both rows show retcode = Success and a small residual, the distributed harness works. The next document (StrongScaling.jmd) reuses run_ranks with a rank sweep and a plot.
